Text Alphabetizer : Sort Text Alphabetically Online

Some lists are short and easy to organize. A couple of names on a piece of paper, for instance, can be sorted in a matter of minutes.

Then you run into lists with a few hundred lines.

That’s a whole different story.

Perhaps you had to copy and paste a list from a website, or maybe you have a set of keywords, names, or product titles that somehow got mixed up. You could organize the lot of them yourself, but odds are the task is about as exciting as a day at the dentist.

This is where a Text Alphabetizer can come in handy. Simply copy and paste your disorganized text into the tool and let it do the boring work for you. When the results are ready, just copy and paste the alphabetized list wherever you need it.

Use Our Text Alphabetizer Tool

What Is a Text Alphabetizer?

A Text Alphabetizer is a tool that helps you sort lines of text in alphabetical order.

For instance, if you had this disorganized text:

Orange
David
Apple
Michael
Banana

The Text Alphabetizer will sort it and give you this:

Apple
Banana
David
Michael
Orange

It’s a neat little tool. Not something I’d expect to use every day, but when you have a long list sitting in front of you, it can save a fair bit of time.

When Is It Useful?

There are a number of little ways in which a Text Alphabetizer can prove to be useful.

Perhaps you’re working on a list of customers, or compiling a list of keywords for an SEO project. Maybe you have a list of products you need to put in alphabetical order before adding them to a spreadsheet.

You could do it all yourself.

But why?

There’s no shame in using the tools available to you. If a computer can sort a few hundred lines in seconds, I’d rather let it do that while I get on with something else.

Maybe you won’t need a Text Alphabetizer more than once in your life. Or maybe you’ll use it several times a week. Either way, it’s a handy little utility to have around.

How To Use the Text Alphabetizer

Using the Text Alphabetizer is simple.

First, copy the text you want to organize.

It’s best to put one item on each line, like this:

Sarah
John
Alex
Daniel
Maria

Then go to the Text Alphabetizer and paste your text into the tool.

Choose the sorting option you want and run the tool. Your list should now look something like this:

Alex
Daniel
John
Maria
Sarah

Copy the new list and you’re done.

No muss, no fuss.

No moving lines around for the next half hour either.

Why Bother When I Can Do It Myself?

For a small list, you probably can.

If you’ve got six or seven names to sort, doing it yourself may actually be quicker than opening a tool.

The difference becomes obvious when the list gets bigger.

Let’s say you have 100 names that need to be sorted. You could sit there comparing names and moving them around, or you could paste them into a Text Alphabetizer and have the job done almost immediately.

I’d choose the second option.

The same goes for keywords, product names, cities, book titles, file names, and other lists that don’t have any particular order.

Can You Sort Text From Z to A?

Sometimes you don’t want the usual A to Z order.

Maybe you’re working with a list where you need the entries in reverse alphabetical order. If the tool has a Z to A option, you can switch the sorting direction with a click.

For example:

Orange
Michael
Grape
Banana
Apple

Instead of starting with Apple, the sorted list would start with Orange and work backward.

It’s not something you’ll need every time.

But when you need it, it’s nice to have.

What About Duplicate Items?

There’s one thing worth remembering.

Sorting a list doesn’t necessarily remove duplicate entries.

If your original text looks like this:

Apple
Orange
Apple
Banana

The sorted result could be:

Apple
Apple
Banana
Orange

Both Apple entries are still there.

So if you’re cleaning up a large list, take a quick look for duplicates afterward if they matter. Alphabetizing and removing duplicates are two separate jobs.

A Few Things To Check

Before copying the finished list, give it a quick look.

Make sure the items are in the order you expected and check whether any blank lines or duplicate entries need to be removed. If the list is important, I’d also keep the original somewhere until you’re sure everything looks right.

It only takes a few seconds.

Let the Computer Do the Boring Part

There isn’t much to say about alphabetizing text. It’s a simple job, and that’s exactly why doing it manually can feel like such a waste of time when the list gets large.

If you have a long list sitting in front of you, use the ToolBoxUp Text Alphabetizer. Paste in your text, sort it, give the result a quick check, and copy it wherever you need it.

Sometimes you don’t need a complicated tool.

You just need something to do the boring job while you get on with yours.
